Can your child put their face under water?

13th September 2017

How many of you hated putting your face in the water as a child? Can you remember the first time you experienced water getting showed over your head or being submerged under water? For some children this is not an issue, however, for some children this is a big problem.

Is your child petrified or apprehensive about putting their face under water? Imagine how you would feel if you’ve entered a tunnel that was pitch black and yet you were afraid of the dark. The fear is not in the tunnel itself, the fear is with the associated with the unknown.

This is the type of psychological barrier is one that prevents every child from putting their face under water. It may not be that they don’t want to go through the tunnel to get to the other side, It’s just that you may need a bit of guidance along the way.

Children also fear what they don’t understand. Many children associate the water with danger and the stigma of drowning is all attached to being under the water. Especially if they have never been underwater before, this I’m sure you can imagine is a daunting experience.

Our job as swim instructors and parents is to guide children through the dark and prove that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We have purposely created a series of 4 logical and progressive games that will help with children putting their face under the water.

Some children will have reservations about water hurting their eyes, or water getting up the nose or in their mouth. Which is an honest concern, however, we have provided some great solutions and key things to practice along the way.

Please watch the Submersion video above for games to help.

So there you have it, 4 games to help guide your child through learning how to put their face under water. Don't believe us? Then give it a try, we would love to hear about your experience.
